VALIDATION or VANITY????

Last weekend we had a craft show here at the Montesa Clubhouse.  Nothing for sale, just  display.

It was an opportunity for residents of our community to show off their art, their craft.   Most of our artisans are quilters as you can see by a few of the exquisite examples on the walls behind me. We also have painters, photographers, jewelry makers, knitters and wood carvers to name a few of the other mediums shown.

I was excited to have an chance to show several examples of my primitive handcraft of rug hooking.  At the end of the morning I was quite pleased to have had many people look at my 'art' and ask questions.  I left the event feeling quite validated that my work was 'nice' as well as interesting!

It is quite a nice feeling to know that others like something that you put your heart and soul into.  I did wonder though, was I feeling validated or just simple vanity!?!?!  Or is there even a difference in those terms?

The dictionary lists the meanings of these words as:
Validate:  to recognize, establish, or illustrate the worthiness or legitimacy of
Vanity:  something that is vain, empty, or valueless

Ok....so I think I will go with feeling validated!!!

  1. Of course it is validation! You are too hard on yourself. You are good at your art and it is pleasing and validating to share it with others~where would we be without art? IT is Worthy of appreciation! You go girl!

  2. You look great. You look like you've lost weight. And this is a great photo...the colors are radiant. Looks like things are going on there...are you sure you want to come back home...it's kinda boring here, actually.
