Still no Grass Growing Here

Wow!  It's been a whole week since I have posted.  That's not like me.  I truly have been busy, just not on the computer.

And....I was waiting until today to make sure that all was going well.  You see, today begins another life change for me.  Changes in my life are so much more common since my mom passed away five years ago.  More than I would like them to be.  However, we don't always have a choice in the changes that come our way.

If you are a regular reader you might remember a past posting about not knowing what to do and where to go when dad and I leave Arizona to go back to Indiana for the summer.  We were in a pickle because Mr. Fix-it's children had moved back home and although our house in the country is fairly large, I think it would have been too much for dad.  There is a daughter, a granddaughter, a Rottweiler, possibly a fiance, as well as his son living there now.  Discussing it with dad who is almost 83, he decided he really didn't want to go back to my house.   I can't blame him, that's a lot of energy going on in one place.

So, after much debate and research.....dad has bought a summer home back there.  It's been an interesting process and I'm sure will continue to be.  I am relieved that dad will now have a home again "back home again in Indiana".  But it also means more change for me since he can't live alone.  It means I won't be going back to my house, or what we call, FenceRow Farms.  It means I won't be living in the country.  I am having a really hard time with that concept!!!

More later!

  1. Karen, just go with the flow and everything will work out. You won't be as far from Mr Fix- it and maybe he can come visit you more often.

Best of luck with this. Hugs, JB

  2. Thanks Julia! I think I am more upset about not living in the country. I live without Mr. Fix-it for many months of the year. I'm a country girl and during the winter I live in a community but have always been able to get my country-girl fix when I go home in the summer, so this is going to be hard!!

  3. Karen ~
You are such a good daughter. There will be a special place in heaven for you (and you will share it with Kim from Millie's Mats and the two of you will be heaven's hookers!). I'm sure you will miss the country, but this is the right thing for dad and because of that, you will make it work!
Sending good thoughts and big hugs your way :)

  4. Hi Karen,
I hope you and your Dad will find happiness in your future! It's difficult to know sometimes what is the right thing. I know that you always are thinking of your Dad first and you will never regret that!
I'll be thinking of you both and hoping the transition goes smooth!
Keep us updated on how it goes!
    Hugs!

  5. Mom used to say, It all comes out in the wash.

This will help your father feel as if he has a say in things and you can go visit your home...not the same, I know.

It is so kind and loving of you to care for your father...many would not. Thank you.

  6. I can relate to you so much right now. Change is hard. And leaving a dear home is such a process. You are so good to continue to keep your Dad's best interests in mind. Keep us posted as you make your transition. All the best.
    Hugs,
    Courtney

  7. That sounds rather hard, but the good thing about the Midwest is that even when you're in the city, you're never too far from the country, either. Hopefully you'll still be able to get some fixes of rural life!
